Data center tax exemption in Idaho

Idaho information technology equipment exemption (Idaho Code 63-3622VV)

Exempts eligible server equipment (servers, storage, chillers, generators, cabling, enabling software) and new data center facilities for a qualifying business entity that invests at least $250 million in the aggregate within five years after construction begins and creates at least 30 new full-time jobs at or above the county average wage within two years of operations; electricity is not covered; the exemption is provisional until thresholds are met, then final, with no enacted sunset.

Recent change: Bills to limit the exemption failed in 2025 (HB 315) and 2026 (HB 609, which would have added a July 1, 2036 sunset and electricity and water conditions); current law is unchanged.

How the score works

Six parts out of 100: transmission (25), generation in the queue (20), the state's industrial power price (20), existing and retiring plants (15), sales tax exemption (10) and data center activity (10). The site finder's methodology prints each formula and every source with its date. Markets: Utility territory (no ISO/RTO).
