What the data shows

The strongest Nevada counties for a large AI load are Clark County (89), Nye County (54) and Lyon County (52) on the site score. Nevada sits in utility territory; its ISO queues hold 7.4 GW of active generation and storage requests, 4.6 GW of them with a signed interconnection agreement, and it has 21 substations at 345 kV and up.

Industrial power averaged 8.4¢/kWh (EIA, July 2026 YTD), against 7.8¢/kWh a year earlier, the 21st lowest of the 50 states and DC. Nevada has a partial data center sales and use tax abatement in force. We track 4 AI campuses and 24 GPU-ready colocation facilities here.

Data center tax exemption in Nevada

Nevada data center partial tax abatement (NRS 360.754), administered by the Governor's Office of Economic Development

Data centers and colocated tenants may qualify for a partial sales and use tax abatement (GOED describes a reduction to a 2% rate, which requires a two-thirds GOED Board vote) and a 75% personal property tax abatement on equipment: a 10-year abatement requires 10 Nevada-resident full-time employees and $25 million of capital investment within 5 years, a 20-year abatement requires 50 employees and $100 million, both at 100% of the statewide average wage with health insurance; GOED may not approve applications received on or after January 1, 2036.

Recent change: July 2025: law change gave the GOED Board discretion to deny or reduce abatements. September 2026: Gov. Lombardo's Executive Order 2026-005 requires applicants to pay the Local School Support Tax in full (a combined sales and use tax rate of at least 4.6%) and sign a Community Support Commitment before the Board considers an application.

How the score works

Six parts out of 100: transmission (25), generation in the queue (20), the state's industrial power price (20), existing and retiring plants (15), sales tax exemption (10) and data center activity (10). The site finder's methodology prints each formula and every source with its date. Markets: Utility territory (no ISO/RTO).
