Bill of materials (BOM)

A bill of materials (BOM) is the itemized list of equipment and services used to price and deliver a GPU cluster: servers, GPUs, networking, storage, racks, cabling, installation and support, with quantities and prices.

Reference BOM cost shares

GPU76.8%
SSD7.9%
NIC5.7%
InfiniBand and switches4.8%
CPU3.8%
RAM1.0%

How it works

Every line is a different asset. Each has its own maker, resale market and aging cycle; GPUs run 76-82% of hardware value in clusters of 22 nodes and above (how to read the BOM).

Quotes hide value in different places. Bundled services, support contracts and installation are often priced into the server line; one OEM listed a server at $1.5M online when the real price was closer to $450,000.

The same list drives insurance. The policy’s equipment schedule is built line by line from the BOM, with a per-unit cap for each item (insuring a GPU cluster).

What lenders check

The BOM is the collateral list. Each line should map to serial numbers on the UCC schedule and the insurance schedule, and to a realistic resale value.

Services are not collateral. Installation, support and software cannot be repossessed, so an advance against the full invoice is an advance against things a lender cannot sell.
